Rocío Calzado is a Spanish architect and urban planner based in Paris, currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Ecole des Ponts of ParisTech. Rocio is part of the documentary film collective docar. , laureates of the FAIRE program of the Pavillon de l’Arsenal in Paris for producing the film ‘de porte à porte’.
Her professional and academic work focuses on exploring maintenance practices both at a building and at an urban scale. Her practice involves collaboration with urbanist, land developers and municipalities designing urban and architecture maintenance protocols that can foster social innovation initiatives. Her academic research on architecture maintenance is applied to the field of social housing and developed through the study of demolition and transformation social housing cases in European cities.
Rocio holds a bachelor’s and a master’s in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and a master’s in politics of Ecology at Sciences Po Paris. She has experience as an urbanist in different architecture offices such as MVRDV in Rotterdam, MQ Architecture in New York, the Tsukamoto Lab in Tokyo, Ezquiaga in Madrid, and
l’AUC in Paris.
Currently, she teaches at ENSA Paris Est and is part of the Technics, Regional Planning and Society Research Centre Laboratory (LATTS). Rocio’s work has been published in different specialised magazines. Since 2023 she has been part of the Lina community and has participated as a speaker in different international conferences and congresses such as the European Network for Housing Research, Pannel 21 at the World Urban Forum 11, MUCEM Focus or TU Delft Atlantis Magazine.
